Description from Publisher:
Reality is only an illusion.
Except for those who can control it…
Worst. Birthday. Ever.

My first boyfriend dumped me—happy birthday, Josie!—my dad is who knows where, I have some weird virus that makes me want to hurl, and now my ex is licking another girl’s tonsils. Oh, and I’m officially the same age as my brother was when he died. Yeah, today is about as fun-filled as the swamps of Dagobah. But then weird things start happening…

Like I make something materialize just by thinking about it.

When hottily-hot badass Reid Wentworth shows up on a motorcycle, everything changes. Like, everything. Who I am. My family. What really happened to my brother. Existence. I am Oculi, and I have the ability to change reality with my thoughts. Now Reid, in all his hotness, is charged with guiding and protecting me as I begin learning how to bend reality. And he’s the only thing standing between me and the secret organization that wants me dead…

My Rating:
Heat Rating:

This sucked me in and had me intrigued from the first few pages. She is a nerd and that is littered throughout but more of a quirk than anything else. (It does get a bit forced at times though...)

Reid is strong  and alpha.... but not. Definitely a softy who is brave enough to be a soldier.

This was incredibly well-written and the reveal of everything,  lore and otherwise, was masterfully done. The characters come alive off the page and bring you into this fantastic world.

The subtle chemistry between these two is a slow burn but not to be ignored.

The suspense is fantastic and had me on the edge of my seat, with action that had me cheering at how badass she is.

There were some things I predicted early  but it is still a hell of a ride.

Books in the Series

KISSING IN CARS
by Sara Ney

Genre: YA Romance
Series: Kiss & Make Up, #1
Standalone: Yes

Description from Publisher:
WILL SHE, OR WON'T SHE...

Studious and (mostly) sensible, the only thing Molly Wakefield wants to do is get through Senior Year and graduate. Well, that and hit the beach in her spare time. Okay, fine - and go shopping every once in a while for a new dress... (and who could blame her?)

And things are going according to plan - until the day she spies Weston McGrath, handsome star athlete and scholar, spying on her in study hall.

A tad creepy? Maybe.
Thrilling? Absolutely.

You see, Weston McGrath happens to be one guy no one can get close to.

Despite her best efforts to avoid it (because let's face it - the guy isn't exactly "boyfriend material") Molly and Weston form a friendship.

And more....
Sort of.
But it's a friendship that comes with a price - because Weston just cannot seem to stop screwing things up. Or saying all the wrong things. Possibly in that order...
And who has time for an 18 year old "fixer-upper" that should know better?
Not Molly.
Or does she?

Note: This YA book is intended for 17+ due to the vulgar language used by its male characters (and occasionally the females as well, even though they're too lady like to do it throughout the entire book). Some adult sexual situations that steam up a few car windows. This title is approx. 63,000 words.

My Rating:
Heat Rating:

Ha, this was surprisingly both sweet and snarky!

I really enjoyed the banter between Wes and Molly, and their chemistry was evident from the first few pages in study hall. Molly's strength and stubbornness was a lot of fun, and both are qualities that I love in a heroine! Wes was adorable at times and clueless at others, while also being the high school equivalent of an alpha male (could you expect less from a badass hockey player? I think not!).

The thing I think I liked the most about this was how very realistic and genuine their relationship progressed. This wasn't a story where two high school seniors fall into insta-love and sail off into the sunset. These two took things fairly slow emotionally and didn't immediately take their relationship incredibly seriously. And when they DID decide to go all-in, they were relatively mature about it. The casual way they dealt with dating was both entertaining and refreshing!

HE KISSED ME FIRST
by Sara Ney

Genre: YA Romance
Series: Kiss & Make Up, #2
Standalone: Yes

Description from Publisher:
HE SAID...

“Trust me – If there’s one thing I’m not attracted to, it’s the shrieking, overly-dramatic shrew that’s taken over my sister’s apartment. And what is up with her hair? I know what I want; an easy, uncomplicated lay – and Cecelia Carter sure as shit isn’t one. But I never could resist a challenge, and vow to wipe that condescending grin off her pretty face. Aw, shit. Did I just call her pretty..?” – Matthew Wakefield

SHE SAID...

"Trust me - If there's one thing I'm not attracted to, it's an arrogant, selfish and foul-mouth hockey player. I know what I want; someone who’s good for my body and soul and makes me laugh - and Matthew Wakefield isn't any of those things. I cannot stand the sight of him; I mean, what a jackass. If I refuse to give him anything but sass and sarcasm, it's only because he deserves it…” - Cecelia Carter

This book is intended for those 17 and older. If you're offended by cursing (particularly "F" bombs), sarcasm, sexual situations and Alpha Male jackasses - this book is not for you...

A KISS LIKE THIS
by Sara Ney

Genre: YA Romance
Series: Kiss & Make Up, #3
Standalone: Yes

Description from Publisher:
ABIGAIL DARLINGTON IS AWKWARD…

She will never be “that” girl. You know the one: that girl on campus, confident in her own skin. Always saying the right things. Putting herself out there. Knows how to talk to a guy without stammering.

Nope. Shy but clever, and easily embarrassed, Abby is fine being the wallflower in her circle of outgoing, beautiful friends; she would rather read about a sexy book boyfriend than actually have a live, breathing one.

…BUT CALEB LOCKHART IS WORSE.

Star goaltender for the University’s hockey team, Caleb is quiet and broody, preferring the solitude of his orderly, regimented life. He doesn’t like, or need people—and plans to keep it that way. One more year left of hockey and he’ll be long gone.

AWKWARD NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD. Both their lives change the day that Abigail falls for Caleb. Well, falls directly on top of him, to be accurate. Because sometimes we don’t settle into love.

We fall there.

WARNING: This book contains cursing, and LOTS of it. It also has sex, uncomfortable and often awkward situations. Not to mention, the secondary characters say some really inappropriate s**t. Not intended for readers under 17

My Rating:
Heat Rating:

One thing can be said for the books in this series is that they are a breath of fresh air for the Young Adult Romance genre. The characters are engaging and familiar, and the situations are the type that you have no problem believing could happen to real life people!

Of the three heroines, Abby was the one I could relate to the most. She is an introverted, slightly awkward bibliophile who is happy to stay at home in something comfortable and read a book or binge-watch a show. The meet-cute for her and Caleb, our hero, is pretty amusing, as she falls on him - literally - while climbing out of the window of a frat guy's bedroom (but it's not what you think ;) ). Caleb is a nice guy, though one of few words and is very responsible. These two are opposites, but also have many things in common, which makes them a really fun pair!

This is the final book in the series, and I think it's a really great end to it all. We get to see the couples from the previous two books pop up (Weston is one of Caleb's hockey mates, and Abby is friends with Cece).

Description from Publisher:
As the millionaire owner of a chain of computer shops, Simon Traxel isn’t normally hands-on with mundane repairs. But when a fretful brunette shows up with her fried laptop and killer green eyes, he makes an exception. And as it turns out, she needs more hands-on help than Simon imagined.

Brainy soil scientist Cassie Michaels has spent her whole life feeling like a grungy tree trunk beside her delicate flower sisters. To make herself more interesting, Cassie invented stories about her wild sex life—stories she’s expected to retell in vivid detail at a bachelorette party. Cassie’s attempt to catalog her biggest whoppers goes awry when she spills wine on her laptop and lands in Simon’s shop with her sexy list frozen on the screen.

But Simon’s interest is piqued, and the two strike a deal to make Cassie’s make-believe sexploits a reality. From steamy public romps gone hilariously awry, to sexy antics with kitchen utensils, their quest to conquer The List is equal parts scorching hot and adorably awkward.

As they near the end of The List though, Cassie and Simon second guess their pledge to shake hands and say goodbye when they cross off the last item. But will Simon’s big secret make that the one fantasy that can never come true?

My Musings:
This was a surprisingly erotic and adventurous read. I hadn't actually expected to be reading light BDSM scenes and girl-on-girl make-out sessions, but those are some of what you get in this.

Cassie, despite mocking their lifestyle, feels like she doesn't measure up to her two older sisters, so she creates stories of outlandish sexual exploits to shock and impress them. They tell all their friends about her, which means she needs to reacquaint herself with the stories she has been telling and writes a list. She accidentally shares that list with a computer repair guy, who offers to *ahem* help her stories become reality (since she apparently came up with them because she secretly wanted to do them...).

To be honest, I wasn't entire sold on an emotional connection between Cassie and Simon. Did they have good sexual compatibility? Absolutely. But I think Simon was too guarded the entire time to really convince me of a deep connection emotionally.

If you are looking for a lighthearted and lightly kinky/smexy read, definitely grab this one!
