COVER REVEAL: "The Fix-Up" by Kendall Ryan (Contemporary Romance)

We are very excited to bring you the highly anticipated cover for THE FIX-UP, the standalone novel from New York Times Bestselling Author Kendall Ryan.

The Fix-Up releases on October 11.

The Fix Up Kendall Ryan ebook cover

From New York Times Bestseller, Kendall Ryan, comes a sexy new standalone novel.

My tempting, and very alpha friend Sterling Quinn is someone I consider off-limits.

It's not just that we're friends, he's also a cocky, confident, and British, which means he's a walking aphrodisiac.

But lately he's been giving me the look. You know the one. When he thinks I'm not paying attention, and his gaze lingers for too long.

And then we start working together, and that's when the sexual tension between us gets so thick, I want to hack through it with a machete. I want to make all these deep feelings I've harbored for him disappear, because there's no way this can end well.

The lines between business and pleasure become irrevocably blurred, and I'm stuck between a rock, and Sterling's very, very hard place.

Rather than keep a level head about our growing attraction, Sterling wants to go all in, showing me just how explosive we can be together.

But I've been around long enough to know that this British bad boy is more than my heart can handle. I'm not about to be cast aside like yesterday's underwear when he's done having fun.

Sterling’s never been told no, and he's not about to put his ego aside and play by my rules. But I never thought he'd fight so dirty.

*This is a spin-off from the HITCHED series, but can be read as a standalone.

Description from Publisher:
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about the O'Malleys-wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.

Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the "values" Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. When she meets Cillian O'Malley, she recognizes the red flag of his family name . . . yet she still can't stop herself from seeing the smoldering, tortured man. To save her family, Olivia sets out to discover Cillian's own secrets, but the real revelation is how fast-and how hard-she's falling for him.

Plagued by a violent past, Cillian is more vulnerable than anyone realizes. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at "hello," even if she's more inclined to say good-bye to an O'Malley. While his proposal of sex with no strings seems simple, what he feels for her isn't, especially after he learns that she belongs to a rival crime family. Cillian knows that there is no escape from the life, but Olivia may be worth trying-and dying-for . . .

My Musings:
What a great addition to the O'Malley series!!

Like the first two in the series, this is a standalone novel and can absolutely be enjoyed without having read about the other O'Malley siblings. However, having read the second book and now the third, I do feel that it was more enjoyable already knowing some of the side characters and what has happened to Cillian up to the beginning of this story. But I still haven't read the first book in the series and love what I've read, so they are definitely standalone.

Cillian's story is less gritty than it's predecessor, having a little less of a focus on the organized crime families and, I feel, more of a focus on the couple and both of them not wanting their 'families' ruling their lives. Olivia doesn't even acknowledge her own affiliation with New York's Russian OC family to Cillian for most of the book, though she struggles with aspects of it throughout. This story was one more about being on the fringe of organized crime, than necessarily part of it.

There was still a healthy amount of action and suspense in this, and you really wanted Sergei, Olivia's ex, to get his at some point. He was seriously unlikeable, which was perfect. Olivia's daughter was a cute addition, and Olivia being a single mother was a new angle for the series. Olivia herself was a bit naive at times, but I still really liked her. And Cillian, who I didn't get to know very well in the second book, definitely grew on me more and more.

These two aren't really about Romance, exactly, but their love feels genuine and they can really steam up an alley or two!

About Katee Robert
Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

My Musings:
This was a book that kept my interest, but at times had me wanting to smack both of the main characters. Which, honestly, is sort of fun so long as things end the way I want them to!

At the start, you have two best friends, Miranda and Cal, who live on opposite coasts and enjoy their sexual compatibility whenever they happen to be near one another. I liked Mira a lot, and she felt very genuine with the way that she dealt with everything, including Cal. Cal was also a fairly typical playboy at first, but you could still sense that he was deeper than that. The fact that these two were meant to be together was pretty evident from the beginning, in the best way.

After Mira finds out that she is pregnant, there is a lot of conflict that, at times, was the reason I wanted to snap some sense into both Mira and Cal. They both seemed to be way too hung up on the lonely "inevitable" futures they envisioned and refused to see the more optimistic outcome that was actually more likely! This was largely due to their own insecurities, which made for an interesting, though angsty, journey to them getting over themselves. It did feel a little off since they were supposed to be best friends (who surely knew one another better than to make such sad assumptions?).

I did think that the way that both characters grew more comfortable in what they wanted was fantastic. The previous annoyances I felt were paid off triple-fold and I appreciated them that much more as a result! Finally(!), these two saw what was right in front of them and not just the futures that they feared to be true, realizing that their futures could be whatever they wanted them to be. (How exactly all of that plays out, you'll need to read to find out, but rest assured, the ups and downs are worth it!!)

Also of note: the romance. Especially despite the fact that Cal "doesn't do romance." The way that it was obvious what Cal wanted and for how long, but was too afraid to even admit to himself, and the tenacity that made it happen... It was relatively subtle, but gave you that sense that there was more to Cal than almost anyone gave him credit for.

The last thing I wanted to touch on is what a great "mom" read this is! Any mom should be able to appreciate the amusing situations of Mira and Cal learning about becoming parents and about pregnancy. I also especially loved the myth busting that happened (a friend's labor starts and Cal is teased for feeling like it's an emergency rather than just chlidbirth, Mira figures out that she IS allowed to drink coffee, etc.).

There are also some fun splashes of Scottish traditions, a wonderful supporting cast, and some sexytimes that you won't want to miss!

About Jenna Bayley-Burke
By day, Jenna is faster than a speeding toddler, stronger than a stubborn husband, able to leap tall Lego structures in a single bound...but by night, while the family sleeps she writes romance novels where no one ever has to scoop up after the dog, change diapers, clip coupons, drive carpool, do laundry, mop floors, get silly putty out of hair, vacuum, empty the vacuum bag (gross!), exercise, count calories, apply bandaids, clean up puke...wait where was this going? Oh, Jenna writes romance because it is glamorous. Just ask the dog.
