Description from Publisher:
“How many times have you saved me?” I ask Bree.

She grins. “Don’t you mean how many times have we saved each other?”

Nothing is forever. Gabe knows that more than most girls. After all, she lives in a funeral home (it’s the family business), and she gets that everything in the world dies eventually – people, rumors, fashion trends, the nickname “Graveyard Gabe.” But her best friend, Bree, has been a constant in her life; it’s always been the two of them together. Until Bree starts seeing a guy who stands for everything Gabe thought they were against. How could Bree change her mind and go for someone like Bryce Johnson?

Now Gabe doesn’t know who her friend is anymore. And the only person who seems to have time for her is Hartman, the new guy, who is somehow not weirded out by the funeral home stuff (well, a little). Still, Gabe doesn’t want to lose her mind over a guy the way Bree has, so she holds back.

But a very strange prom night (driving the family hearse instead of a limo) will change what Gabe knows about friendship, love, life, and everything that comes after – forever and otherwise.

My Rating:
Heat Rating:

Considering the fact that Gabe works (and lives) at a funeral home, I expected her to be more interesting. But instead, she becomes exactly who she hates people treating her like -a weird, closed-off, broody goth girl.

The way that she acted basically the entire book wasn't what I feel would be consistent with any 16 year old girl, but instead everything felt like it was middle schoolers. And I say that as someone who didn't have her first kiss until she was 18 and had graduated high school. The way she and Bree were about boys and dating, the way Gabe couldn't handle sharing her friend...

There were some nice messages about life and death in this, which was really the best part.

I liked Hartman, and thought that the way he pursued Gabe was pretty adorable. He was also eccentric and quirky, but in what felt like a very genuine way. I do wish that these characters had had more depth though, especially Gabe, since it was hard to make any real connection with any if them when we mostly just got shallow stereotypes and interactions.

For the majority of the story, not a whole lot seems to actually happen and it dragged quite a bit. Finally, at about 70% it picked up and became more interesting.

My Source: I received a digital ARC from the publisher to voluntarily review. This in no way influenced my review. My opinion is unbiased and my 100% own.

THE COLORS OF MY LIFE
by Linda Burson

Publisher: Class Act Books
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publication Date: May 15th 2017

Description from Publisher:
Bank Robbers… Kidnappers… and a daring romance

Mrs. Caylie Lyon a devoted, but bored, unhappy housewife of 28 years makes a sudden decision that transforms her and alters her life.

When waiting with her husband, Nolan, in their local bank, a group of masked-men storm through the front doors. When the armed robbers grab a young mother of two to kidnap to ensure their escape, Caylie offers to take her place.

Caylie uses her memories of a handsome movie star, Landon Cordell, to help her deal with her confinement, until she falls in love with one of her kidnappers. They form a close bond, and Caylie’s life is forever changed.

Can their love survive the haunts of Cole’s past and can love be enough when Caylie’s opportunity to meet Landon Cordell becomes a reality?

About the Author:
Linda Burson, a Connecticut resident for over 27 years, has been writing ever since she was a teenager. She started out writing memoirs and continued writing by attempting several nonfiction pieces.

After attending college, pursuing other interests, and traveling, a lot of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary novels.

After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own custom computerized embroidery business and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.

After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed down her business after almost fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.

In January, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing notes about how her novel would progress. After that, the writing began and it never stopped. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES.

When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important. Having my youngest daughter, who works in the publishing field, offer advice and knowledge, has helped me to stay focused and continue to write.”

Linda’s first five books in the Marcy Series are published—and the sixth will be available in 2017. Her hope is to have her complete Marcy Series romantic thriller published in the near future. She is also in the process of writing a new thriller, and has just completed a murder mystery novel which she hopes to have published in 2017, along with her other Romance Thriller/Suspense, The Colors of My Life.
