Description from Publisher:
Beckett,

If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have.

I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride.

My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.

And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.

So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.

Please don’t make her go through it alone.

Ryan

Oh my god. I cried. Like, tears. I kept thinking it wouldn't happen, couldn't. But it did. And I couldn't stop reading but I wanted to. Thankfully, both of my babies are next to me to hug and be glad they are alive and well (This isn't -really- a spoiler. It isn't what you might think!)

I had started this expecting a romance, and will start that this is only just barely a romance. It was about a family dealing with one tragedy after another, being broken and then sewn back together, but not impeccably. It -was- a romance in that it is about a single mother and a man who loves her.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't really care for Ella, the female protagonist, but I loved Beckett (the male lead), and the kids. The bond there was so heartwarming and heartbreaking. I can't go into more without spoilers, but you will cry reading this one.

Description from Publisher:
Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, gorgeous royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.

***

Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to call him hers.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.

This was a great slowburn, over years of sweet bonding moments for Ellie and Logan. I enjoyed reading each piece to their puzzle.

They had chemistry and there was affection, but I feel as though the sizzle was reduced with all the time jumps. It was a bit awkward to keep track of, and things would get going and then skip ahead. With nothing physical even close to happening for 60%.

The updates on prior couples were fun (even having only read Henry's story), and I appreciated the group dynamic.

The suspense was present but over fairly quickly and a bit random.

All in all, this was sweet. I liked the joie de vivre of Ellie and the rogueish stoicism. of Logan and how they met in the middle.
