Description from Publisher:
He’s Paxton Wilder.

Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.

Five time X Games medalist.

The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.

He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.

But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.

Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

My Musings:
This story was addictive and I couldn't stop turning pages, eager to stay on the adventure!

It was sexy, funny, sweet, romantic, suspenseful, and filled with great locales and extreme sports!

First, we meet Leah, who has been a bit of a recluse for 2 years and is pushing herself out of her comfort zone by doing a school-year on a cruise ship, School at Sea. In order to participate in the otherwise-too-expensive program, she's doing a work-study in order to get a scholarship for herself and her best friend, and tutoring an assigned student.

Enter, Paxton Wilder. Energy surrounding him is frenetic and, as hot as he is, his cocky attitude irritates Leah. Then, she winds up being pressured into ziplining with him onto their cruise ship. (Haha, and this is just the first few pages!). She needs him to pass all of his classes in order to keep her scholarship. And he needs to pass all of his classes in order to continue his life of extreme sports.

Because, you see, Paxton Wilder is the leader of a group of extreme sports atheletes called The Renegades, comprised of his oldest and best friends, and then some "junior Renegades" to round out the group.

From the moment these two meet eyes, sparks fly and their chemistry practically burns the pages. Yet there really isn't an "InstaLust" situation here, at least not one that detracts at all from the rest of the story. Over the course of the book, their relationship develops in this slow, but very genuine and deep way. Paxton may be a playboy, but he is also incredibly sweet and I really loved how patient he was with Leah. There's a bit of a game of her giving him permission before he closes the distance between the two of them, which I actually thought was really refreshing because so often in romance consent is a bit less implicit (not in a bad way, but it showed how much Pax respected Leah that he gave her control). His honesty and confidence were endearing AND sexy, two fantastic traits in a leading man.

There are a lot of great moments between these two, and I really loved how they helped one another to grow and become more self-confident. And that scorching chemistry between the two of them is ridiculously HOT and contributes some wonderfully steamy scenes.

This had some twists that took awhile for me to see (I did see them coming, but not right away!), and I liked how everything was slowly revealed. This was really expertly paced, never feeling like anything dragged, though also not speeding through everything that it lacks depth and genuine emotion. The mystery and suspense were fantasticly blended in.

There was one point in this that had me a bit frustrated, which was Leah's drama over Paxton's mistake that caused a rift between them. It felt silly and unnecessary to me, and I couldn't help but side with Pax in the "Seriously? How can she doubt him after everything?!". It's resolved quickly enough, fortunately.

I also really liked the supporting characters in this, particularly the other Original Renegades. I am excited to read their stories, though I'm not entirely sold on Landon's love interest. I'll definitely read the next one though, since this first book was an absolute joy to read!
My Source: I received a digital ARC from the publisher to voluntarily review. This in no way influenced my review. My opinion is unbiased and my 100% own.
